5 Beauty Trends That Dominated London Fashion Week
By September 17, 2019
As tends to be the case at London Fashion Week, beauty hinged on the juxtaposition of punk rebellion and ladylike romance this season. Flashes of sparkle were subversively edged on the gazes at Halpern, while Simone Rocha’s twinkly hair ornaments shined more subtly. Then there was the slew of side-swept hairstyles, with Marques’Almeida swooping strands over one eye to a new romantic effect and Ports 1961 injecting the look with a Gallic sensibility by way of effortless bends. But most distinct of all were the varying takes on unconventional graphic eyeliner, from Matty Bovan’s bold teal slashes to Victoria Beckham’s smoky crease lines. Here, are the five standout beauty trends that stole the runway.
There’s a Statement Accessory for Everyone |
Playing off the collection’s intricate drop and chandelier earrings, Simone Rocha presented a dazzling array of spiked silver headbands and pins, each encrusted with pearls and crystals to gleaming effect. And taking the adornment to ear level, Halpern bestowed several models with ear ornaments sculpted into mesmerizing sunburst shapes. On the other side of the spectrum, there were timeless, pretty touches: Ashish and Bora Aksu each applied fresh flowers to the hair, while Erdem secured long, low braids with black ribbon.
Graphic Eyes Go Avant-Garde |
Alternatives to the perennially classic cat-eye manifested throughout the week. Deconstructed liner looks were administered backstage at Matty Bovan and Simone Rocha; the former alternating between teal and khaki are drawn across the eye from the inner corner to the brow bone, and the latter encasing gazes in sooty strokes for a punk edge. Then there was Victoria Beckham, who, true to form, put a prim twist on an alternative liner, playing up negative space with neat dashes along the creases in rich burgundy, fuchsia, and turquoise shades.
